Hungry thief gets two years for robbing pizza deliveryman

A man who was “simply hungry” was slapped with a two-year jail term for mugging a pizza deliveryman in San Mateo, prosecutors said.

Cops said Chris Jongejan, 20, of Foster City, and two younger thugs called Domino's Pizza for a $40 delivery and had no plans to pay for it.

They assaulted the deliveryman during the March attack, knocking him to the ground and punching him in the head repeatedly before making off with the pizzas, according to San Mateo County prosecutors.

They did not take any money, just the pizza, Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

The suspects admitted to the robberies, saying they stole “because they were hungry, not for profit,” Wagstaffe said.

Jongejan, who has been in custody, will get 264 days credit to his two-year jail sentence for time already served, prosecutors said.

Cops said they know Jongejan well. They said he was a problem teenager that began living on San Mateo streets after his parents kicked him out. His “constant bad behavior” and “refusal to follow rules” were the reasons his parents gave him the boot, prosecutors said.
