Drive sober or get pulled over.
That’s the message San Mateo County police delivered to 43 people arrested on suspicion of drunken driving during the first 48 hours of Memorial Day weekend.
As part of the “Avoid the 23” traffic enforcement effort, 17 county law enforcement agencies arrested 43 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said. However, there were no reported deaths or collisions during the 48-hour period.
Avoid programs, named for the number of police agencies involved in each effort, also will be in effect for the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends.
