Perhaps the mayoral race will get a little juicer on Monday.
District 11 Supervisor John Avalos said he will indicate whether he is running for mayor, emerging as the only candidate thought of as a core progressive in the race.
Leader of a popular local hiring law, Avalos was elected as supervisor and chaired the Budget and Finance Committee after he served as former Supervisor Chris Daly’s legislative aide.
Avalos would join a crowded field of mayoral hopefuls, including City Attorney Dennis Herrera, former Supervisors Bevan Dufty and Michela Alioto-Pier, Supervisor David Chiu, State Sen. Leland Yee, venture capitalist Joanna Rees and Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting.
