Guess who’s not so crazy about the flavored, energy-packed, alcoholic beverage known as Four Loko?
Well, who’s not crazy about the drink other than the state of New York, which just banned the rocket-fueled malt beverage, and the Food and Drug Administration, which sent out warning letters about the drink this morning?
The answer is none other than City Attorney Dennis Herrera, who sent out a statement this morning commending the FDA.
“Following FDA’s year-long review, today’s action signifies a necessary and urgent step in removing these dangerous products from the market and away from youth,” said Herrera. “[Alcoholic energy drinks] attract young people who wrongly believe that the caffeine will offset the intoxicating effects of the alcohol.”
You might not be surprised that Four Loko has left a bad taste in Herrera’s mouth. First off, it leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. Second, you may remember Herrera made a concerted effort to ban Sparks, the MillerCoors alcoholic energy drink that was basically a weak version of Four Loko.
MillerCoors voluntarily stopped adding caffeine to its drink, and it appears that Four Loko is the next to cave to the pressure.
