The founder of a popular Richmond District restaurant and premier tequila bar has died, staff confirmed Thursday afternoon.
Tommy Bermejo, who founded Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant with his wife, died suddenly earlier this week.
A staff member at the restaurant confirmed Bermejo’s death, but declined to comment further.
According to the
restaurant's website, Bermejo opened the 5929 Geary Blvd. location in 1965. It claims to have “the most extensive collection of 100 percent agave tequila outside of Mexico.”
The restaurant specializes in Mexican and Yucatecan cuisine.
