A San Francisco elementary school is doing its part to raise money for the victims of Japan’s natural disasters.

Donate a dollar to the school and get a paper crane with your name on it.

Families at Francis Scott Key Elementary School in the Outer Sunset neighborhood will create thousands of paper cranes to help victims. Each crane will be given a name from the person who donated to disaster relief. The cranes will be hung in the lobby and school hallways.

Families will begin making cranes Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the school.

This isn’t the first school to help raise money for the victims of the March 10, 9.0-magnitude quake and resulting tsunami. Last week, Clarendon raised $22,000 for victims.

According to San Francisco Unified School District officials, there are change jars in classrooms across the district. Donations will be delivered to the Red Cross or local Japanese community organizations.
