USDA coming to check up on childhood obesity at San Francisco school

The federal government is coming to check up on San Francisco school kids.

On Tuesday, the under secretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Kevin Concannon, will be at E.R. Taylor Elementary School in the Portola neighborhood to see how the school is combating obesity.

His visit is part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign, which aims to combat childhood obesity by providing schools,

families and communities with simple tools to help kids be more active.

Concannon will tour the school garden, watch students coach their peers in outdoor games and participate in a cooking lesson.

According to district officials, the elementary school also receives funding from the USDA for a nutrition education program.
