$100 park ‘fee’ is an optional deposit

A recent blog post says the Recreation and Park Department is charging all picnickers at Dolores Park a $100 fee for people who want to secure a spot, say for their 5-year-old son’s picnic.

What the blog refers to as a “performance bond” fee is actually like a deposit that is returned to the “picnicker”

who has asked for the permit in the first place. The actual fee to secure a spot is $27.

The hundreds of picnickers who spontaneously bring their blankets to the park are not fined and will not be asked to obtain a permit, either.

The picnic fee is a way for people who want to secure a spot in the park in case the hundreds of picnickers who aren’t paying a fee decide to take over.
