Rain, rain, go away, you’re interrupting my toddler’s play

Toddlers have been sent home from the Sunset Recreation Center after the storm started leaking on their gym time.

Sunset Rec is due for a major renovation early next year, but in the meantime, the roof springs a few leaks in storms, said Rec and Park spokesman Elton Pon.

Part of the center had to be closed and Toddler Gym class had to be canceled because staff kept needing to mop up the wet floor, said a recreational director at the center.

Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works was encouraging people to rake up the leaves from streets, sidewalks and storm drains and put them in compost bins, in an attempt to stave off floods. Leaves can clog storm drains and create small-scale floods and  large puddles on streets, hazardous particularly to bike riders and potentially damaging to nearby  homes.
