Adachi screening documentary on leaving prison life

The difficult transition from prison to outside life will be the focus of a documentary set to be shown Thursday night at the Main Building of the San Francisco Public Library.

The film, called "A Hard Straight", follows the experience of three men trying to move on with their lives after being released from prison in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Along with the screening of the documentary, San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi will moderate a discussion on the process of ex-cons adapting to civilian life. Officials from correctional, rehabilitation and reentry programs will also be on hand to discuss the topic, as will San Francisco Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi.

The film and discussion will run from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Koret Auditorium in the Main Library on 100 Larkin Street.
