Murkowski might not come back to Washington until November

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, who has bucked the Republican establishment by launching a write-in bid against Senate GOP candidate Joe Miller, may not be returning to the Senate any time soon.

That’s according to Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, head of the Senate GOP campaign arm, who was asked by reporters Tuesday about the fate of Murkowski’s role in the Senate.

“What I’ve heard is that she’s not likely to come back between now and November,” Cornyn said.

Republican leaders are angry that Murkowski has decided to run after being narrowly defeated by Miller, a Tea Party favorite, in the primary last month. She resigned her leadership and will likely lose her top committee assignment on the Energy and Natural Resources panel.

While Miller currently leads in the polls, Murkowski’s candidacy could split Republican voters and give Democratic candidate Scott McAdams the advantage in a seat that normally would have easily been retained by the GOP.
