Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich says he has faced mass resignations of staff members because he is “very different” than most politicians, according to Reuters

"Philosophically, I am very different from normal politicians, and normal consultants found that very hard to deal with," Gingrich said in a speech to the Atlanta Press Club.

Gingrich went on to compare his campaign to that of Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign during which 13 staffers quit the effort.

"If I had to choose Reaganomics or 13 staffers quitting, I think for the average working American, Reaganomics was a much better deal," Gingrich said, referring to Reagan's policy of cutting taxes and reducing government regulations.

Thus far, the Gingrich campaign has suffered the loss of its campaign manager and other senior staffers on June 9 and the resignations of its key fundraisers on June 21. Staffers have attributed Gingrich’s fundraising efforts as one reason for the resignations. According to the Associated Press, the campaign debt is at least $1 million.
