Regulate your way to riches: Oxley's new big client

The financial industry loves hiring up those who regulate them. The hedge funds hired Rep. Richard Baker, one of the first congressman to propose regulating hedge funds. Three of Barney Frank's top banking staffers have become bank lobbyings. Chris Dodd's chief counsel monetized her role in Dodd-Frank.
And, as we covered in the Examiner a year ago, Michael Oxley -- co-author of the post-Enron Sarbanes-Oxley bill regulating publicly traded companies and investment professionals -- retired from Congress to a life of lobbying. He used to be a lobbyist for NASDAQ, and so naturally now, he is a lobbyist for FINRA -- the heir to NASD as a self-regulatory body of the securities industry.
