Overwhelmed by the ongoing did-he-jump-or-was-he-pushed trial coverage of the late Michael Jackson’s personal physician? Here’s an uplifting little bulletin that might provide some welcome distraction: On Nov. 21, Epic Records — in conjunction with Jackson’s estate — will issue a new album from the King of Pop called “Immortal,” in single- or deluxe two-disc format.
And it’s quite an unusual undertaking. Billed as the “musical tapestry” for Cirque Du Soleil’s “The Immortal World Tour,” it’s essentially a labor of love from musical designer Kevin Antunes, who’s previously worked closely with Madonna, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake.
To reimagine over 40 of Jackson’s catalog classics, Antunes spent a full year in the studio, reconfiguring original multitracks into a compilation that allows listeners to experience the music in a completely new way.
“Michael’s legacy as the greatest entertainer of our lifetime is inspiring beyond words,” Antunes says. “It was clear from the start that Michael’s voice and overall musical essence was the sole/soul source of creative energy driving the project. It was built with love and respect for Michael’s music, his family, and his millions of fans around the world.”
Fans can preorder it now and also view Cirque-synced footage at www.michaeljackson.com.
