Neil Gaiman, Amanda Palmer going on tour together

Fans probably took it as a joke at first, perhaps a publicity stunt, when Dresden Dolls anchor Amanda Palmer organized a fun flash-mob “wedding” in New Orleans last November with noted fantasy author Neil Gaiman.

But Lo and behold, this January the couple announced that they had, indeed, secretly married, in a quiet ceremony held at author Michael Chabon’s house.

Now, things are getting stranger.

Which is only natural, considering the wonderfully eccentric personalities involved. They’ve actually undertaken a tour, billed as “An Evening With Neil Gaiman And Amanda Palmer,” which will hit San Francisco’s Palace Of Fine Arts on Nov. 4.

The newlyweds are promising a night of songs, stories, chats with the audience and dramatic surprises, and the stage will be outfitted accordingly, with piano, ukulele, two microphones and plush armchairs.

As Palmer explains, “This show will be a very different beast from the loud, crazed rock shows that I’m accustomed to, and also very different from the relatively well-behaved readings to which Neil is accustomed.”

Adds the “Sandman”/”Neverwhere”-renowned Gaiman, “I read things at Amanda’s concerts. She’s sung things at my readings. This will be whatever happens when we get on a stage together for two hours.”

Fans can also purchase VIP seating and soundcheck-access tickets at www.kickstarter.com, or — if you miss these unusual gigs — audio recordings of them, plus merchandise at the same site.
