One thing you can say about barnstorming banshee Chris Cornell — the guy certainly doesn’t telegraph his punches.

No sooner had he finished with his recent reunion tour with Soundgarden — which precedes an upcoming album they’re currently recording — than he released a standalone new single called “The Keeper,” from the soundtrack to Marc Forster’s “Machine Gun Preacher.”

It now has its own video, as well.

But he’s diverting from the Soundgarden path again Nov. 21, when UMe will release a live “Songbook,” culled from this spring’s solo “Songbook” tour, which saw him acoustically recreate classics from his solo/’Garden/Audioslave catalog across the country.

“Songbook” has a lot of fan favorites, like “Black Hole Sun,” “Fell On Black Days” and “I Am The Highway.” But it also features “The Keeper” and a few surprises, like covers of John Lennon’s “Imagine” and Led Zeppelin’s “Thank You.” And Cornell isn’t throwing the album out there to sink or swim — he’s backing it with a second spate of “Songbook” concerts, which will bring him back to San Francisco on Dec. 15, at the posh Palace of Fine Arts.
