Czech-Republic-bred keyboardist Marketa Irglova can claim quite a few distinct honors at only 23.

Like having won an actual Academy Award, believe it or not, for the song “Falling Slowly,” from the “Once” soundtrack she performed with her whimsical duo The Swell Season. Or the fact that she’s the only winner in Oscar history who was called back by the host – in this case, Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart – to finish her cut-off acceptance speech.

Other fabulous feats: Singing with Iron And Wine; working on an upcoming Broadway version of “Once”; and even appearing on “The Simpsons.”

So it’s long past time that Irglova strike out on her own with a solo set; Her “Anar” bow will hit shelves on Oct. 11, via Anti Records.

Now based in New York City, she put the songs together at a local art/performance location called Zora Space, and pulled from such disparate musical influences as Otis Redding, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, and the “Jesus Christ Superstar” soundtrack.

For the album title, she turned to a painting of a pomegranate that fascinated her by Iranian artist Nahid Hagigat, since ‘anar’ is Persian for the fruit.

A solo tour will soon be announced; Check back here for more, or visit www.marketairglovamusic.com.
