If you read between the lines, you might have been able to see this one coming. But probably not. Still, there is footage out there of Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt and his wife down in Huntington Beach last weekend, proudly displaying the surreal artwork they successfully acquired in an auction.
The occasion? An annual Pipeline To A Cure gala, co-chaired by Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalima, that benefitted the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. And you have to hand it to Dirnt — he doesn’t just talk about his pet causes in TV interviews. He puts his money where his good-hearted mouth is.
Which, of course, brings us to our presentation’s bullet point.
Tomorrow night, at the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa (1700 Placentia; 8 p.m.), Green Day will be playing a (now not-so) secret show, with all proceeds going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Which ups that good-hearted ante considerably, you’d have to agree.
Tickets are $20, only available at the door, with a strict no-camera, no-cellphone policy. So leave ’em in the car if you’re driving down. It’s also a 21+ show, so get a sitter for Junior.
