As usual, Tori Amos has found an unusual angle to promote her upcoming “Night Of Hunters” album: an actual Tori Amos limited edition Diana F+ camera.
The Diana was originally a cheap Hong Kong model that sold for roughly a dollar in the 1960s. By the 1970s, it had been discontinued, but it soon became a collector’s item favorite with lo-fi shutterbugs, until it was recently replicated for a new generation by The Lomographic Society, a company Amos has teamed with that’s dedicated to creative and experimental analog snapshot photography.
Ergo, only 2,000 pieces of their special Tori model will be available, along with a “Treasure Chest” edition of “Hunters,” complete with camera, book, lens set, a two-disc autographed “From Russia With Love” CD, and film roll in a Bosendorfer-inspired box.
Before the “Night” tour hits Oakland on Dec. 16 (venue unannounced as of yet), Amos is also launching a global “Inspiration City” competition, wherein ten lucky photographers in ten cities (Paris, Moscow, London, Berlin, Chicago, Rome, Amsterdam, Philadelphia, New York, and Los Angeles) will win one of her Diana F+ cameras (details on the Lomography site). The winners will have their pictures included, with credits, in the “Night Of Hunters” tour book.
The competition ends Aug. 15. For more information, visit www.toriamos.com.
