There’s just something about warm-timbred thrush Rachael Yamagata’s music that lends itself well to prime TV and film placement.

Ever since her John Alagia-produced 2004 debut “Happenstance,” she’s finagled her material into countless movies, and television series like “The O.C.,” “Nip/Tuck.” “One Tree Hill” and even “How I Met Your Mother.”

This August, she’ll hit a whole new level of kitschy hipness when she appears on “The Muppets” film soundtrack, crooning Gonzo’s “I’m Going Back There Someday.” Seriously — what could be cooler than Kermit?

But now the resourceful Yamagata is returning with a new album, as yet untitled but out this fall, and she’s releasing it herself and financing it DIY style, via www.pledgemusic.com. Fans can visit her page there to underwrite both the recording and its subsequent tour.

The tracks have been home-recorded — quite literally, at Alagia’s house, in his acoustically perfect bedroom and echoey shower stall. And for backing musicians, she assembled her personal dream team: Mike Viola on guitar, Victor Indrizzo on drums, Tom Freund on bass, and cellist Oli Kraus, among others.
