It’s a fact: My Chemical Romance bandleader Gerard Way is one of modern rock’s most boundary-pushing, forward-thinking Renaissance men.
He didn’t merely toss out another garage-punk powerchorder with their recent “Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys” — he scripted it as a futuristic, almost operatic, concept album, with a series of videos, even a graphic novel, that elaborate on its “Clockwork Orange” type themes. But what else would you expect from a man who’s simultaneously penning an Eisner-Award-winning superhero comic called “The Umbrella Academy”?
So don’t look so stunned when we tell you of MCR’s latest fashionable venture: A custom Tokyo Flash watch, sold exclusively at their website for an affordable $125.
Made in conjunction with Better Living Industries, the Seikatsu Koujou Kyokusen timepiece looks like something one of Way’s Killjoys gang would sport years from now. With a push of its high-tech button, it shows the time via an arced array of lit lines and dots that denote hours and minutes. It’s got a stainless-steel buckle, it’s water-resistant, and is USB-rechargeable — plug it into your computer for three-and-a-half hours, and you’re good to go for a full month.
Just one more reason why we love these guys.
