While we totally adore Melora Creager and her spooky, cello-driven combo Rasputina and urge you to see them this Sunday night at The City’s Great American Music Hall (www.gamhtickets.com), we have to ask one other little favor: Get there early!

An even spookier new Gothic blues duo from Britain called Smoke Fairies will be opening said set, and one listen to these gals – Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies – and gravedigger-grim dirges such as “Living With Ghosts” or “Strange Moon Rising” – is all it will take to hook you. Picture Tegan and Sara meeting Nick Cave at the Robert Johnson railroad tracks at devil-dealing moonlight and you’ll have a pretty good idea of their sound.

The girls met in their native Sussex as teens, and started singing in their school choir. In 2002, they moved to New Orleans for a year, where they delved into Yankee blues and – given their proclivity for slide – were quite possibly possessed by the spirit of Elmore James.

Then they wound up in Canada for another year, discovered traditional English folk, and combined the genres on “Gastown”/”Riversong,” a 2009 single for Jack White’s Third Man imprint, featuring White himself as drummer/producer.

They’re touring these shores backing their Cornwall-tracked debut disc, “Through Low Light And Trees.” Catch this rare appearance if you can, or tune in to www.smokefairies.com.
