It’s taken a while for snarky UK punk-pop combo The Wombats to find its footing again after its 2007 debut “A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation.”

But they’re back April 26 with a campy, kinetic new followup, “This Modern Glitch,” and addictive singles like “Anti-D” and “Tokayo (Vampires & Wolves).” And they’ve upped the playful ante with The Wombatizer, which allows fans to “hijack” websites to scan for hidden Wombats prizes, such as a trip to see the trio in Barcelona, tickets to their album launch party in London, and tons of CDs and T-shirts.

What took the group so long?

Bandleader Matthew Murphy tried writing sophomore songs in his new London digs, but they all turned out incredibly angry, like “Guillotine” and “Firing Squad.” So he moved back in with his parents in Liverpool, went to the pub with his old mates, and finally arrived at “Glitch.”

“I’d lock myself in a room for eight hours and expect something great to come along,” he recalls. “And then when it didn’t, it was aggravating. Whereas what I needed to do was just relax or go get drunk or hang out with my friends — just something as simple as that.”
