Glasvegas records latest release in the states

It’s a fact — James Allan, the frontman for Scottish alt-rockers Glasvegas — sings in a burr so bramble-thick, you practically need a lyric sheet to decipher it. And his songs crackle with the flame of working-class Glasgow — anthemic rabble-rousers that carry the torch of homeland forebears like Big Country.

So what did the man do for his long-awaited sophomore release?

Head to America, of course. To Santa Monica, specifically, where Glasvegas set up studio shop with producer Flood to track the oddly-dubbed “Euphoric///Heartbreak///,” out April 5 on Columbia.

Did moving into a palatial beach house get Allan in touch with his hardscrabble roots?

Decide for yourself at www.glasvegas.net, where you can procure a free download of a sample track, “The World Is Yours,” and check out the video for lead single “Euphoria Take My Hand.”

One influence he’s quick to note is Ridley Scott’s crucial sci-fi epic “Blade Runner” — he even painted Rutger Hauer’s key final speech across his chest for a recent NME photo shoot. A tour should bring the band to San Francisco — where they debuted at a packed Popscene over a year ago — early this summer.

More details on this incredibly important group as we get ’em.
