Bob Geldof looking for the next big singer/songwriter

What has ex-Boomtown Rat and nonstop socio-political activist Bob Geldof been up to lately?

He’s been backing so many humanitarian causes, it’s almost impossible to list them all. But one in particular stands out: The annual YouBloom Song Contest, a tradition he launched last year, along with Phil Harrington, A&R exec Nigel Grainge, songwriter Rupert Hine and producer Damion “Damizza” Young.

What is it, exactly?

Geldof swears that it’s no cheesy “X-Factor” or “American Idol.”

YouBloom — which is currently

taking submissions at www.youbloom.com — is looking for the world’s best new writing talent, not just some kid who can sing well.

The simple concept is catching on.

Last year, thousands entered, with the winner, Neev Kennedy, bagging a none-too-shabby grand prize of 10,000 euros. Mainly, though, Geldof and his four co-chairmen want to not only find said songwriters, but help groom them into formidable talents.

Got an original tune you believe is up to “Rat Trap” muster? Go for it, and good luck.
