Start the year right with these albums

We thought we'd leave you with a little something to mull over for the new year -- a quick addendum of top-notch Also-Rans in the 2010 Top Ten department. Here are five more records you might have missed:

1) O Children; "O Children"; (Deadly People Recordings). Been longing for a spooky new update of that sinister Sisters Of Mercy sound? Get ready, Goths -- your new superghouls have arrived, straight out of the UK/'80s tombs.

2) Marina & The Diamonds; "The Family Jewels"; (Atlantic). Marina Diamandis looks like Catherine Zeta-Jones but sings like the loopy Stiff Records stalwart Lene Lovich on this stunning set of idiosyncratic originals.

3) My Chemical Romance; "Danger Days -- The True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys"; (Reprise).

Gerard Way and company used to the be the pretty poster children for the emo movement. Now they rock like nobody's business, with verve, velocity and above all, a brilliant comics-inspired vision.

4) The Jim Jones Revue; "The Jim Jones Revue," "Burning Your House Down"; (Punk Rock Blues). Ex-Thee Hypnotics frontman Jim Jones is truly one of the most rabid retro-R&B rockers to howl into a bullet mike since the late Lux Interior. The former album is his Stateside bow, the latter his new UK sophomore salvo -- both are worth tracking down.

5) The Like; "Release Me"; (Downtown). This '60s-obsessed girl group hit paydirt with this Spectoresque, oblique-chorded romp. A mix polished to perfection by keen-eared producer Mark Ronson.
