Some bands have strange background stories. Others have bios that read like old “Twilight Zone” scripts, like that of Holzfeuer, the Austrian-born frontman for local punk-metal outfit ArnoCorps (which is celebrating its 10th Anniversary in the Bay Area with a show at Slim’s this Saturday).

As his fable goes, he grew fascinated with the Alpine lore his grandmother related to him — stories of kings, gypsies and historic heroes like Hans the Terminator, who almost single-handedly protected Austria from Celtic invaders in 399 B.C. Naturally, the wide-eyed kid would one day start writing Accept-heavy anthems about such subjects, like “Terminator” and “Judgment Day.”

After enduring deadly van and plane crashes — even being blacklisted as an enemy of the state in his homeland — Holzfeuer wound up in The City a decade ago, where he assembled his new ArnoCorps lineup.

Onstage, his combat-fatigue image echoes comicdom’s Sgt. Rock, and melds perfectly with new skullcrushers “I’m Ballsy” and “You Lack Discipline.”

The Slim’s lineup is billed as “Heroic Supersymmetry,” and features past and present members in a three-bass, three-guitar phalanx. Just don’t plan on yodeling.
