Doobie Brothers put on free concert at Apple

Missed the Doobie Brothers Christmas charity concert at the Nob Hill Masonic this week? Fear not — our local heroes are putting in another unusual appearance before they head off to Portland this weekend. And it’s a chance to see them in one of the most intimate settings imaginable: San Francisco’s flagship Apple Store, at 1 Stockton St., tonight at 7 p.m. And what’s more, it’s free.

Granted, it’s not the halcyon “Minute By Minute” lineup with the marble-mouthed murmur of Michael McDonald. But these guys still rock, as exemplified by their rock-solid new “World Gone Crazy” set, which they’ll be dipping into at Apple. The gig might even mark the beginning of a whole new Renaissance for these still-standing Bay Area survivors.
