Last time we spoke to Peter Bjorn and John studio mastermind Bjorn Yttling, he was raving about an all-girl Japanese quartet he was producing called The Suzan.

Well, the album — bearing the quirky title “Golden Week For The Poco Poco Beat” — is finally here, and it lives up to expectations.

It’s surreal, sonic genius, exemplified by kickoff single “Home,” which revolves around tom-tom tribal drums, plucky vibraphone filigrees, ’60s Spector-session harmonies, and a Duane Eddy guitar bridge. Recorded in Sweden, the record features a cameo from longtime PBJ pal Lykke Li, as well.

The Suzan was the brainchild of sisters Saori (vocals) and Rie (keyboards), with Ikue on bass and Nico on drums. And the girls already have their own zany iPhone app, wherein fans can manipulate their colorful new video for “Home.”

They’re also scheduled to hit the Bay Area Feb. 18th, opening for Chromeo at the Fox Theater in Oakland.

Yttling has always had a great ear for pop melody, and it won’t be long before America is rocking to his charming new discovery.
