BART reopens stations after morning train fire

All BART stations are now open Thursday morning after a fire on a train closed multiple stations in Alameda County earlier Thursday, according to BART officials.

The last car of a three-car train caught fire at 4:38 a.m. between the Coliseum and Fruitvale stations, according to BART officials. The fire prompted the closure of the Lake Merritt, Fruitvale, Coliseum and San Leandro stations, as well as the connector to the Oakland International Airport.

BART is investigating what ignited a fire around 4:30 a.m. in the last car of a three-car train in East Oakland. Spokesman Jim Allison said 50 passengers were in the car and three were treated for injuries.

One person suffered smoke inhalation, another was treated for breathing difficulties and another had an injured hand, the Oakland Fire Department said.

BART officials wrote on Twitter at 8:48 a.m. about the stations reopening but said passengers can expect some delays as normal service resumes.

Stations along the SFO-Pittsburg/Bay Point line and the Richmond-to-Daly City lines remained open through the morning commute, BART officials said.
