Making fun of earnest UK outfit Coldplay is so incredibly easy, even the Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl does it in his new video, where his “Falling Down”-inspired character finally explodes when he spies a Coldplay bumper sticker on the traffic-jammed car in front of him.
So we propose this: Let’s be incredibly unhip — and ahead of the curve — and start taking them seriously this year. Since they have, in fact, sold 50 million albums, and won seven Grammys, six Brit Awards, and four MTV Video Music Awards.
So here’s the latest bulletin on them, earnest or not.
Chris Martin and company’s latest single, “Paradise,” is out today, and fans can get it as an instant download when they pre-order the new album, “Mylo Xyloto,” which streets on Oct. 24.
And yes, it features a — gulp — song with the awkward title of “Charlie Brown.”
But the set was mainly inspired by the groundbreaking work of 1970s graffiti artists, and it also boasts “Princess Of China,” a duet with the red-hot Rihanna.
Production credits are intriguing, as well — Markus Dravs, Daniel Green and Rik Simpson are listed, but so is Brian Eno, for his “exonification and additional composition.”
