Ashley Judd has published a tell-all memoir about her experiences growing up — and Naomi and Wynonna may not be pleased. The 42-year-old actress says her mother and sister, who became country superstars as the Judds before Ashley achieved success in Hollywood, ignored her to pursue fame.
“My mother, while she was transforming herself into the country legend Naomi Judd, created an origin myth for the Judds that did not match my reality,” the 42-year-old star writes in “All That Is Bitter and Sweet.” “She and my sister [Wynonna] have been quoted as saying that our family put the ‘fun’ in dysfunction. I wondered: ‘Who, exactly, was having all the fun? What was I missing?’”
Allegedly, “there was always marijuana inside the house,” and her father had a fondness for hallucinogens. And after her parents divorced, Ashley recalls, her mom’s rebound romance was with an “abusive full-blown heroin addict with a criminal record.”
“I was taught to believe that our lifestyle was normal and never to question it or complain, even when I was left alone for hours, sometimes days at a time, or when I was passed without warning to yet another relative,” she says.
“I loved my mother,” Ashley asserts. “But at the same time I dreaded the mayhem and uncertainty that followed her everywhere … I often felt like an outsider observing my mom’s life as she followed her own dreams.”
Looks like it’s going to be an awkward Thanksgiving at the Judd house this year.
Is Angelina Jolie’s new tattoo a clue that she’s adopted baby No. 7? The Oscar winner has famously inked a list of latitude and longitude coordinates on her left upper arm — one for the birthplaces of each of her six children. (Even the twins, which seems redundant, but hey, who are we to question a superwoman like Angelina?)
But this week, during her humanitarian trip to visit refugees on the Tunisia-Libya border, Angie debuted another set of coordinates, starting with 35 degrees north. So naturally, speculation has arisen that she and partner Brad Pitt have secretly adopted a tyke from a nation in the vicinity.
A source told People magazine the adoption speculation is off-base. Ooh — but could it be that the “Tourist” star is actually pregnant, and has already chosen the hospital where she wants to give birth? (Or maybe the 35-degree spot refers to Brad’s native Oklahoma.)
Regardless, it seems that Angelina’s trips abroad to raise awareness of the plight of refugees mainly seem to raise awareness of … Angelina.
It’s hard to believe former teen queen Britney Spears is almost 30 — and acting like it. In an interview with Us magazine, the “Femme Fatale” singer opens up about her new life as a working mom of two (who happens to be an international pop star), and about her grown-up relationship of two years.
“I’ve never been happier!” exclaims Brit, who has found a steady — in more ways than one — boyfriend in agent Jason Trawick.
“We have such a great time together!” she gushes. “He makes me laugh, and we are so comfortable being ourselves.”
So, is a third trip down the aisle in Britney’s future?
“Maybe,” says the pop princess. “Never say never!”
On one hand, we’d like to see Britney happily married. On the other hand … she’s doing so well! If it ain’t broke, why fix it?
