Art U athlete is the best DII sprinter in the country

It would be no exaggeration to say the Academy of Art University track program has the best sprinter in Division II athletics.

Mobolade Ajomale made that official over the weekend, when he won the 60- and 200-meter races at the indoor nationals. He was also named Division II Track Athlete of the Year.

Ajomale is the first athlete in Art U program history to earn that distinction, which was announced Tuesday.

His 20.85-second running of the 200m set a new normal-condition NCAA DII record.

Joining Ajomale as members of the All-American team are fellow Academy of Art athletes Hannah Hensley (high jump); Michane Ricketts and Craig Mattox (long jump); and Marion Presigny (pentathalon).

Academy of Art softball player Hannah Rose Balke won PacWest Pitcher of the Week.

She’s being honored after throwing a new hitter against Notre Dame de Namur, a first for any Urban Knight pitcher against DII competition. She totaled 10 no-hit innings over two games.
