Garage-door opener leads to theft suspect

It was a real open-and-shut case. Police arrested a man suspected of multiple burglaries in Potrero Hill on Friday after he unknowingly opened and closed a garage door while police were investigating the scene, police said. Police responded to the 400 block of Connecticut Street about 3:40 a.m. after a resident called 911 about an unknown man walking out of a neighbor’s garage. Tough luck for alleged 'Rub Me' groper

A man accused of grabbing the buttocks of young girls at a Target store while wearing a T-shirt that read “Rub Me For Luck” unsuccessfully asked a judge last week to throw out the charges. UPS deliveryman Glenn Albrecht, 50, is scheduled to return to court Tuesday to either accept a plea deal with prosecutors or head to trial. Thief begs for mercy after unholy heist

A thief cried out for mercy in the Outer Mission district last week after he was taken down for stealing a man’s crucifix, police said. The robbery was reported at about 1:20 p.m. Thursday in the 5200 block of Mission Street. The victim had been walking in the crosswalk at Mt. Vernon Avenue when the suspect, who had been walking past him, reached out and ripped the metal chain and copper crucifix from his neck, according to police. Read More

Tool nailed for storage shed heist

This woman always gets stuck with the tools. A burglary suspect who was fleeing Belmont police earlier this month ditched his car along with his girlfriend, leaving her behind with all the tools he had allegedly stolen from a storage shed, according to prosecutors. An increasing number of cellphone robberies and pedestrian-involved traffic accidents in The City has led to a campaign against distracted driving and walking. Beggar becomes chooser with rusty gun

He gives beggars citywide a bad name. A thankless thug who asked for spare change at a Bayview gas station on Wednesday robbed a 69-year-old man who had agreed to give him money, police said. The lout asked for cash as the victim got out of his car to pump gas at Third Street and Evans Avenue about 8:40 p.m. “The victim agreed and pulled a $100 bill from his wallet to pay for the gas,” according to Bayview police. Group arrested in SFSU scuffle connected with squatters evicted from church

A group involved in a scuffle with San Francisco State University police Thursday night was part of a squatter's collective that was evicted from an abandoned church in the city earlier this week, according to a statement from a member of the group. An SFSU police officer was injured and several people were arrested in the confrontation Thursday night when police sought to remove alleged trespassers from a dormitory, according to a university spokeswoman. Man admits to killing S.F. woman

A man has pleaded guilty to killing a woman from San Francisco in Antigua as she made a stopover in the Caribbean island for her sister’s wedding. Tishara Daniel made no statement as he entered his plea Wednesday to a charge of murder in the death of 29-year-old Nina Nilssen. The director of public prosecutions in St. John’s has not said what sentence he will seek when the 27-year-old Daniel is sentenced, which is expected to happen July 5. Read More

Ex-psychiatrist William Ayres pleads no contest to charges of molesting boys

After years of legal wrangling, Dr. William Ayres, an 81-year-old former San Mateo psychiatrist accused of molesting boys during examinations in the 1990s, admitted to the charges against him Thursday. A wheelchair-bound Ayres pleaded no contest to eight felony molestation charges just four days into jury selection in his second trial in San Mateo County Superior Court.
