Mission shooting leads to highway chase

Three suspects fleeing police after a shooting in the Mission district early Thursday made it all the way to the Candlestick Park exit before their car crashed, police said, but one of them managed to escape. Police were reportedly nearby when gunfire erupted at Mission and 19th streets at about 2 a.m. Officers even saw shots coming from a vehicle, police said. The officers found a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was transported to the hospital while other units chased after a white sedan. Read More

Savage bar beating suspect pleads not guilty

A San Carlos man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges that he savagely beat another patron of a Belmont bar early Monday, critically injuring him. Joseph Patrick Kaufman, 23, and the 48-year-old victim had been drinking separately at Lariat Tavern, prosecutors said, but they got into an argument outside the bar after closing time about 2:15 a.m. The spat was over the older man's female friend, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.  Further details about a possible motive were not available. Adult son of Bernal Heights couple acts like child

He's a son of a....loving mother? A drunken man who was reportedly enraged at his mom for refusing to hand him the keys to her car last week broke items in his parents’ Bernal Heights home, punched walls and overturned recycling bins before stomping off. Officers responded to the home near Cortland and Folsom streets at about 11:30 p.m. and found the allegedly shameful man-child a short distance away, police said. The man “violently resisted” both officers and tried to attack one of them, police said. Read More

66-year-old woman socked during robbery

A 66-year-old woman was punched in the face by a vicious transient who tried to make off with her necklace in the Mission district Tuesday, police said. But the 4:21 p.m. robbery in the 3000 block of 25th Street was thwarted when witnesses flagged down police. Ricardo Hinojosa Gonzalez, 49, was booked on charges that include robbery and possession of marijuana for sale, along with an outstanding warrant, Sgt. Dennis Toomer said Wednesday. “He was detained close to where the attack happened,” Toomer said. Read More

Unlicensed driver admits to downing 12-pack

An unlicensed driver admitted to consuming 12 beers in two-and-a-half hours before getting behind the wheel of a van last week and plowing into parked motorcycles in the Excelsior district, according to police. An officer responded to the intersection of Mission Street and Ocean Avenue at about 8:20 p.m. Thursday and reportedly found the suspect, 44-year-old Librado Alberto Sierra of Daly City, allegedly sitting against a streetlight with bloodshot eyes and the scent of alcohol on his breath. Blessed Marvelous Herve, 41, of San Francisco, is facing as many as 20 years in prison for defrauding a Bay Area couple out of $1.6 million while posing as the son of a Congolese president, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. S.F. law enforcement to stop using condoms to arrest, prosecute sex workers

Police and prosecutors in San Francisco will no longer use condoms as evidence when arresting and charging sex workers, according to an agreement announced Tuesday between The City’s law enforcement agencies and the Human Rights Commission. The agreement followed a six-month trial period in which condoms were not used as evidence in cases. Read More

Crash probe after woman struck in crosswalk

A 56-year-old woman suffered a serious head injury Monday after being struck in a crosswalk just south of Crocker Amazon Playground, according to police. Police initially reported the incident as a hit and run Tuesday morning, but have since revised their report to say the driver did stop at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
