A 16-year-old boy who escaped from San Francisco’s juvenile detention center last month is in custody after he reportedly returned home for food, rest and clothes.
The teenager, who broke out of the Juvenile Justice Center on Woodside Avenue along with a 12-year-old boy on April 16, was detained Thursday at his parents’ home, Chief Probation Officer William Siffermann said.

A man who beat his wife with a hammer in front of their son in South San Francisco three years ago – and attacked her again after bailing out of jail – was sentenced Thursday to 36 years to life in prison.
Raymon McCowan, 49, of American Canyon, was seen by employees of La Quinta Inn in South City striking his wife of 19 years in the hotel parking lot on Feb. 8, 2010.

A woman was robbed at gunpoint while opening a Polk Gulch business Thursday morning, police said.
The thug, described as a man in his 20s, reportedly pulled out a handgun and held it to the 34-year-old merchant’s head in the 600 block of Eddy Street, between Polk and Larkin streets, at about 9 a.m.
The robber demanded that the merchant open the door and unlock the safe, police said, and the she complied. While the suspect reached in for the cash, the merchant fled and screamed for help.

A 28-year-old woman using a tablet on a Muni bus during Wednesday morning's commute was pushed by a teenager who then robbed her device, police said, but the suspect was caught after a foot chase with a cop.
The robbery reportedly occurred on the 44 O’Shaughnessy line in the area of Seventh and Clarendon avenues at about 7:15 a.m.
An officer responded before the suspect, a 17-year-old boy, could get away, police said. The tablet was recovered. The teenager is not being identified because he is a minor.
The woman was not injured, police said.

A vehicle carrying three people, including a 71-year-old man, was hit by a bullet in the Sunnydale neighborhood on Tuesday, the second shooting in the area in as many days.
The victims, two men ages 50 and 71 and a 36-year-old woman, were driving eastbound in the 100 block of Blythedale Avenue, near Santos Street, when they saw two men in their 20s running toward them at about 6:30 p.m., police said.

A callous killer has shocked a judge with his lack of remorse.
"He's dead. Everybody dies," 25-year-old Tyler Hutchinson said about his victim, 88-year-old Albert Korn, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
Hutchinson added, "I'm gonna die. You're gonna die. I don't care," Wagstaffe said.
The statement helped increase Hutchinson's sentence Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
