Joe Paterno, who racked up more wins than anyone else in major college football but was fired from Penn State amid a child sex abuse scandal has died. He was 85.
His family released a statement Sunday morning to announce his death.
Paterno's son Scott announced Nov. 18 that his father was being treated for lung cancer, which was diagnosed in mid-November during a follow-up visit for a bronchial illness.
The storied career of "JoePa" included 409 wins in 46 seasons and two national championships.

Zane Johnson scored 18 of his season-high 29 points in the first half as Hawaii defeated New Mexico State 91-87 on Saturday night.
Johnson, a senior, shot 7 of 13 from 3-point range and was 10 of 17 from the field to help the Rainbow Warriors (11-8, 3-2 WAC) snap a two-game losing streak.
Bandja Sy had 17 points and Hamidu Rahman 16 to lead the Aggies (14-6, 4-1), who had won their last six and nine of their previous 10 games.

Colt Ryan scored 20 points and Evansville turned two big first-half runs into a 79-71 victory over Illinois State on Saturday night.
The Purple Aces (10-9, 5-4 Missouri Valley) had runs of 15-2 and 15-5 to go on top 42-27 at halftime, and increased the lead to 23 points early in the second half.
An 8-0 run by Illinois State (12-8, 4-5) cut the deficit to 55-40, and a 3-pointer by Nic Moore made it 63-51 with 8:58 remaining. The Redbirds rallied within eight points twice down the stretch but could get no closer.

Jordan Clarkson paced Tulsa with 14 points in a rout over Rice 70-46 Saturday night.
Tim Peete and Steven Idlet scored 10 points apiece for Tulsa (11-9, 4-2 Conference USA), which shot 53.1 percent from the floor.
Rice (11-9, 2-3) led by as many as six in the first half and trailed by as many as 28 in the second as a competitive first half of play reversed itself in the latter stage. The Owls made only 8 of 29 shots in the second half, including 1 of 8 from 3-point range, and was outscored 45-24. Rice trailed 25-22 at halftime.

Caleb Patterson scored 16 points and sank the go-ahead basket with 1:09 left as Missouri State nudged Bradley 51-48 on Saturday night.
After Patterson's shot broke a 45-45 tie, Kyle Weems hit two free throws to put the Bears up 49-45. Walt Lemon Jr.'s 3-pointer brought Bradley within 49-48 with 4 seconds left before Nathan Scheer added two foul shots for the final margin.
Weems added 15 points to notch his 100th career double-digit game for the Bears (12-9, 5-4 Missouri Valley), who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Delwan Graham had a double-double off the bench to lead Jacksonville over Kennesaw State 66-50 on Saturday night.
The Dolphins (4-15, 2-6 Atlantic Sun Conference) scored 21 points off of 17 turnovers and held the Owls to just one 3-pointer (1 of 10).
Jacksonville also outscored Kennesaw State 32-24 in the paint and outrebounded the owls 38-25. That led to 19 second-chance points.
The Dolphins led 30-20 at halftime and opened up the second half on a 15-6 run to go up by 19 on Glenn Powell's jumper with 12:11 left.

Kevin Van Wijk scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds to pace Valparaiso past Illinois-Chicago 60-55 on Saturday.
Jay Harris came off the bench to score 13 points for Valparaiso (14-7, 7-2 Horizon) and Ryan Broekhoff scored 12 and had three steals.
The lead changed hands 15 times and the score was tied on eight occasions.
Valparaiso outscored Illinois-Chicago (6-13, 2-7) 32-10 in the paint and had a 23-17 scoring advantage off the bench.

Stevie Mejia converted a three-point play in the final seconds to lift Hofstra to a 71-69 win over James Madison on Saturday.
With James Madison leading 69-68, Mejia hit a layup and a foul shot with 6 seconds to play. Mejia finished with eight points. There were five ties, 11 lead changes and neither team led by more than eight points in the game.
Nathaniel Lester scored 23 points, David Imes added 14 and Mike Moore had 10 for the Pride (7-13, 1-7 Colonial Athletic Association), who snapped a six-game losing streak.

Michael Harper scored a game-high 28 points to lead Coppin State to a 77-57 victory Saturday over North Carolina Central in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game.
The Eagles (9-10, 4-1) led 60-52 with 8:15 remaining before closing with a 17-5 run to win going away.

Sherrod Wright scored 22 points off the bench and George Mason's reserves outscored Towson's bench 43-1 in a 72-60 win over Towson on Saturday.
George Mason (15-5, 7-1 Colonial Athletic Association) led by as many as 18, but had to weather a late comeback attempt by the Tigers (0-20, 0-8) who trailed by five with fewer than two minutes to play.
However, Wright hit a key 3-pointer with 1:35 left to play and put the Patriots ahead by eight points at 66-58 and sealed their eighth win in the last nine games.
