The NFL announced preseason schedules Thursday, and the 49ers will take a trip to Kansas City in the second week of the preseason to face Smith and his new team the Chiefs.

The move is the latest to distance the organization from the era of late owner Al Davis. Kelly originally signed with Oakland as an undrafted free agent in 2004 and quickly became a mainstay on the defense, signing a $50.1 million, seven-year contract to remain with Oakland in 2008. Read More

(AP) — Tackle Alex Barron signed a free-agent contract with the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday as he hopes to revive his career after sitting out the past two seasons.Barron, a former first round pick by St. Louis in 2005, has started just one game since 2009. After playing sparingly in Dallas in 2010, Barron missed the entire 2011 season with New Orleans with a knee injury and was cut in training camp last summer by Seattle.Barron said he is once again healthy and that time away from football only reinforced how much he wanted to continue to play the game. The 49ers signed free-agent safety and special teams standout Darcel McBath to a one-year contract, adding depth to the secondary.
McBath is the second safety added by Super Bowl runner-up San Francisco since the start of free agency.
