Marian Hossa scored twice to back a strong effort by goalie Corey Crawford, and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Minnesota Wild 5-1 Thursday night to win their first-round playoff series 4-1.
Chicago is moving on in the postseason for the first time since the championship run in 2010, and will face either San Jose or Detroit if the Red Wings get past Anaheim.
The way the Blackhawks have dominated, anything less than a trip to the Stanley Cup finals would be a disappointment for them.

There is one element the experts ignored in analyzing the second-round playoff series between the San Antonio Spurs and Warriors: The Spurs are an old team on probably their last run with Tim Duncan and the Warriors are a young, improving team.

The most dominant boys’ tennis program in the history of the San Francisco Section proved its mettle once again in Thursday’s Academic Athletic Association tournament championship match at Golden Gate Park.
Lowell High School delivered another impressive performance in a 5-2 win over Lincoln, and it wasn’t even that close. The Cardinals showed once again why it’s them and everyone else in the SFS-AAA, winning the championship for the 22nd time in the event’s 25 year existence.

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy had their best start ever Thursday in The Players Championship. It still wasn’t enough to catch Roberto Castro, who had never played the TPC Sawgrass and made a debut he won’t soon forget.
Castro hit shots into tap-in range on the famed 17th and 18th holes on his way to a 9-under 63 in perfect scoring conditions in the morning. He tied the course record held by Fred Couples and Greg Norman, and it gave him a three-shot lead — the largest 18-hole margin in 21 years at Sawgrass — over McIlroy and Zach Johnson.

The Sharks will begin the second round of the playoffs somewhat short-handed after losing forward Adam Burish to an undisclosed upper-body injury.

Everything is going the Cleveland Indians’ way. There’s no dispute or debate about that.

The confident aura the Warriors are giving off right now might be the only thing brighter than those yellow shirts every home fan is expected to be wearing again for Game 3 against the San Antonio Spurs tonight at ear-piercing Oracle Arena.
Maybe for good reason, too.
The Warriors have outshot, outrebounded and outhustled the Spurs through the first two games of their Western Conference semifinal. And if not for an unprecedented collapse in Game 1, Golden State would be returning to the Bay Area with a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series instead of being tied.

Klay Thompson scored 34 points, Stephen Curry added 22 and the Golden State Warriors withstood another furious rally by the San Antonio Spurs for a 100-91 victory Wednesday night to even their series at one game apiece and snap a 30-game skid in the Alamo City.
Thompson, who scored 29 points in the first half, added 14 rebounds for Golden State, which had not won in San Antonio since Feb. 14, 1997. Harrison Barnes had 13 points, Carl Landry added 10 and Andrew Bogut had six points and 11 rebounds.
