Parker leads Spurs past Warriors for 3-2 lead

Tony Parker had 25 points and 10 assists, and the San Antonio Spurs held the Golden State Warriors' starting backcourt to 13 points for a 109-91 victory Tuesday night to take a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference semifinals. Kawhi Leonard added 17 points, Danny Green scored 16 and Tim Duncan had 14 points and 11 rebounds for San Antonio. Lowell softball snags yet another championship

It was Lowell High School in a runaway — again. After dominating the Academic Athletic Association season, the Cardinals entered the San Francisco Section playoffs as the prohibitive favorite to win a third consecutive championship. On Tuesday, Lowell did just that, rolling to an 11-1, mercy-rule victory over Washington in five innings at San Francisco State University. R.A. Dickey snapped a four-start winless streak, Melky Cabrera had four hits against his former team and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the San Francisco Giants 10-6 on Tuesday night. Edwin Encarnacion drove in two runs and scored twice as the Blue Jays had a season-high 18 hits and won three straight games for just the second time this season. Dickey (3-5) struck out a season-high 10 in six innings, allowing two runs and six hits, to win for the first time since April 18 against the Chicago White Sox. Read More

Barnes named to all-rookie team

Warriors first-year small forward Harrison Barnes was among those named to the NBA All-Rookie first team Tuesday. The 20-year-old out of North Carolina finished with a .439 field-goal percentage and averaged 9.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game through his first regular season. Barnes is joined on the first team by the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Dion Waiters; the Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard; the league’s Rookie of the Year, the Washington Wizards’ Bradley Beal; and the New Orleans Hornets’ Anthony Davis. Sagan takes Stage 3 of Tour of California

Peter Sagan of Slovakia sprinted to the Stage 3 win and Colombian Janier Acevedo maintained the race lead Tuesday as strong winds replaced the heat at the Tour of California. Sagan (Cannondale) completed the 110.3-mile Palmdale to Santa Clarita road race in 4 hours, 20 minutes, 31 seconds and was victorious by about a half-bike length. Former Cal star still mentored students

Former running back Chuck Muncie, a three-time All-Pro has died at the age of 60 from a heart attack. A star at Cal, Muncie finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting as a senior, then was the third overall pick by the New Orleans Saints in the 1976 NFL Draft. He was traded to the San Diego Chargers during the 1980 season. In 1981, he scored a league-leading 19 touchdowns. Read More

LeBron James scored 27 points and the Miami Heat nearly matched a franchise record for points allowed in a playoff game, pounding the listless and short-handed Chicago Bulls 88-65 on Monday night to take a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
