Harry Likas, who won the NCAA singles championship in 1948, will be one of three former Bay Area stars inducted into the Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame today.Alex O’Brien of Stanford and Matt Lucena of Cal will join Likens as part of the 11-member class inducted today in Athens, Ga., site of this week’s NCAA championships. Is Barry Zito the reincarnation of Ray Sadecki? In 1966, the Giants traded for Sadecki, thinking they were getting the left-handed starter they needed to win the pennant. Two years earlier, at 23, Sadecki won 20 games for the St. Louis Cardinals, but he felt tremendous pressure because he was traded for Orlando Cepeda, the most popular Giant. Snead returns to raiders

Veteran pro player personnel evaluator Rich Snead rejoined the Raiders’ front office. Snead, who previously worked for the Raiders from 1990-93, replaces Michael Lombardi, who was fired this month. Kotsay begins rehab today

Seems like it’s been forever since Mark Kotsay has stepped onto the baseball field for live action. The A’s center fielder will take his first steps toward recovery today as he suits up for Triple-A Sacramento to begin his rehab assignment when the River Cats take on the Salt Lake Bees. Lick-Wilmerding baseball coach Manny Granillo took a chance early in his team’s Bay Counties League West semifinal game against Stuart Hall.With the score still 0-0 and the bases loaded in the top of the third inning, Granillo pulled his starting pitcher, senior Caleb Kauffman, in favor of his shortstop, senior Louis Derosa."I wasn’t concerned," Granillo said after the top-seeded Tigers’ 4-2 win over the Knights. It could be safe to assume that after one game the Lowell softball team has seen enough of Oakland Tech pitcher Marika Zumbro.Unfortunately for the Cardinals, they are going to be facing her again real soon.Zumbro pitched a three-hitter, struck out 16 and went 3-for-3 to lead Oakland Tech to a 5-1 victory over Lowell at Laney College in the first game of the Transbay Series.The Cardinals (18-3) will look to even the best-of-three series, which pits the winners of the Oakland and San Francisco sections, Tuesday at Lang Field.
