Where the Super Bowl will celebrate a half-century of existence will be decided Tuesday by NFL owners.
They have two choices for the 50th anniversary game in 2016: the Bay Area and South Florida.
But after Miami was unable to secure public financing to renovate Sun Life Stadium earlier this month, San Francisco appears to be the front-runner as committees will make presentations at the NFL spring meetings in Boston.

Someone wondered before the first pitch what A’s manager Bob Melvin was going to do about Yoenis Cespedes.
The second-year major-leaguer from Cuba was hitting below the dreaded “Mendoza Line” of .200, at .198. Or as the players say, he’s on the wrong interstate, I-98.
Melvin shrugged off the question. “He’s fine,” the manager said. “He’s just an aggressive swinger. He’s staying, because when he’s in the lineup he takes the pressure off everybody. He’s so important.”

The Stanford and Cal softball teams have both have their fair share of success on the national stage over the years. But this season, neither will be playing in a super regional.
Stanford fell 10-5 to Nebraska in the Lincoln Regional on Sunday, while Cal dropped a 3-1 game to host Michigan in the Ann Arbor Regional, ending both schools’ season.
Senior pitcher Teagan Gerhart threw her final game in a Stanford uniform, ending the year 21-13 overall.

Barry Zito couldn’t get on track in a second consecutive ineffective outing, and the Giants lost 5-0 to the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.
A 1-5 road swing finished with another thud. The starting pitchers had a 9.82 ERA and the fielders committed 13 errors on the trip.
“Overall, I think we had just a horrible trip,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “You have a rough week like this, I wouldn’t say concerned [about the rotation], but we’ve got to make some adjustments.”

When Logan Couture limped off the ice in the middle of a tied game San Jose desperately needed to win, it looked as if he was taking the Sharks’ playoffs hopes with him.
Instead Couture managed to make it back out on the ice to give his team an emotional spark and topped that by scoring the overtime game-winner that got the Sharks back into their second-round series against Los Angeles with a 2-1 victory in Game 3 on Saturday night.

An up-and-coming runner from Ethiopia conquered his first Bay to Breakers and Olympian Ryan Hall placed as high as any American since 1986.Tolossa Gedefa Fufi, 23, won the men’s field in the 102nd Bay to Breakers presented by Craigslist on Sunday, finishing the 12-kilometer race through the heart of The City in 35 minutes 1 second. Hall finished in second place 39 seconds later. Like Gedefa Fufi, Hall was competing in his first-ever Bay to Breakers and his runner-up finish was the highest placement by an American since Ed Eyestone won the race 27 years ago.
