A senior Republican Senate aide says that the House has indicated it will not agree to let the Senate leave for a full recess over Memorial Day in an attempt to block President Obama from making any appointments during the break next week.
Under the U.S Constitution, neither chamber can adjourn for more than three days unless both chambers agree to it.
When Democrats took over Congress in 2007, they held pro forma Senate sessions every three days during breaks to prevent President Bush from making any appointments, some of which lasted mere seconds.

The woman who had a child fathered by former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger 10 years ago has been identified as Mildred Patricia Baena, a housekeeper/assistant who worked for the Schwarzenegger-Shriver family for more than 20 years, according to online sources. TMZ reports that she performed cleaning duties, did laundry and cooked, among other chores.
The child, a boy, was reportedly fathered more than 10 years ago, before Schwarzenegger’s seven-year term as governor of California began.

Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin, D-Mich., said Monday the he hopes the Pakistani government grills its military and intelligence officers about their knowledge of Osama bin Laden's million-dollar compound.
In a critical statement given to reporters Monday morning, Levin questioned whether Pakistani officials may have known bin Laden was hiding not far from the country's military hub.

Osama bin Laden, who used a family inheritance to build the global terrorist network that killed almost 3,000 people in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks targeting New York and Washington, has died in a U.S. military action, according to President Barack Obama.
The Saudi-born bin Laden, who helped found al-Qaeda in 1988 after fighting Soviet troops in Afghanistan, was targeted in a compound in Pakistan. He was 54.
