Ross gave up two hits and struck out three in three innings, and Yonder Alonso hit one of the San Diego Padres’ three homers in a 10-0 romp over the A’s on Monday.
“Coming in, I probably said hello to one too many guys and I heard it from the guys in the bullpen,” said Ross, acquired by the Padres in trade this offseason. “They were chirping, telling me to cut the cord and whatnot, but those are my friends over there. It was good to see them.”

PHOENIX (AP) — Brett Anderson called it "pure athleticism at its finest."
The fact that he could make light of what could have been a serious situation for the Oakland A's was a bit of good news in a 7-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Anderson, picked by manager Bob Melvin to start on opening day, was just eight pitches into his second start of the spring when trouble arose.

PHOENIX — Chris Young felt out of place as he trotted to left field for the first time ever, at any level. It took a few plays to feel situated.
Young singled, walked and scored twice, Jed Lowrie hit a two-run homer and the A’s beat a Seattle Mariners split squad 7-3 on Thursday.
Tommy Milone pitched three scoreless innings for the A’s, who have won four of their last five.

PHOENIX — The A’s will move their spring training camp to nearby Mesa starting in 2015, agreeing to a 20-year deal following approval from the Mesa City Council.
The Chicago Cubs are moving out of HohoKam Park to a new facility in Mesa next spring, and the A’s will assume control of HohoKam Park and Fitch Park after their lease with Phoenix expires in December 2014.
Oakland trained in Mesa for a decade, at Rendezvous Park from 1969-76 and then at HohoKam from 1977-78.

PHOENIX — John Jaso was brought to the A’s as a backup. He showed what he could do as a starter.
Jaso had a bases-loaded triple, Brandon Moss had two hits and an RBI, and the A’s beat the Los Angeles Angels 13-5 on Monday.
“He’s always had good numbers but it’s still good to see him hit like that,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said. “He got that triple off a left-hander and he’s had good at-bats this year.”
Jaso, a four-year veteran, was obtained in a three-way trade from the Seattle Mariners to backup catcher Derek Norris.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A pair of Colorado Rockies pitchers were so wild Sunday, the A’s barely had to swing to score.
Oakland had 12 hits but pushed across its first four runs without putting the ball in play.
Colorado’s Jorge De La Rosa and Tyler Chatwood combined to issue five walks and hit three batters with pitches in the first three innings. All three A’s were plunked with the bases loaded — Michael Choice in the first, and Daric Barton and Scott Sizemore in the third. Adam Rosales also drew a bases-loaded walk in the third.

MESA, Ariz. — Announced as the A’s Opening Day starter before the game, Brett Anderson allowed one hit in two scoreless innings Thursday in Oakland’s 5-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs.
The 25-year-old left-hander, 4-2 with a 2.57 ERA in six starts last year after he recovered from elbow surgery, will be opposed by the Seattle Mariners’ Felix Hernandez in the April 1 matchup at Oakland.
Anderson said manager Bob Melvin gave him the news a day earlier.

The second baseman is now trying to regain his starting role with the A’s. There are plenty of candidates in the infield.
Scott Sizemore returns after tearing his left knee last spring and missing the year. Jed Lowrie was obtained in a trade with the Houston Astros and the A’s signed Japanese veteran Hiroyuki Nakajimi.

Scott Sizemore was supposed to be Oakland’s starting third baseman last year. Instead, he had to sit and watch as the A’s had one of the most memorable seasons in franchise history without him.
Sizemore tore his left anterior cruciate ligament on the first day of spring training last year and missed the entire season. This year, he is back, fully healthy — and now locked in a battle for the second base job.
On Sunday, he played in the field in a game for the first time in more than a year, and he made a diving play at second base — no sweat.
