Twins complete sweep of A’s behind Willingham

MINNEAPOLIS — Playing against his former team, Minnesota Twins left fielder Josh Willingham did it again Wednesday. Less than 24 hours after clubbing a walk-off, three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Willingham blasted another homer Wednesday to lead the Twins to a 4-0 win over the A’s. Josh Willingham hit a walk-off, three-run homer off A’s closer Brian Fuentes to rally the Minnesota Twins to a 3-2 victory Tuesday and send his former team to its seventh straight defeat. Three A’s pitchers combined on a shutout until the ninth, when Jamey Carroll singled and Denard Span walked ahead of Willingham, who blasted a 1-0 sinker from Fuentes (2-1) into the Twins’ bullpen in left-center. MINNEAPOLIS — The normally unflappable Ryan Cook had his worst outing of the season for the A’s on Monday, allowing a pair of runs in the eighth inning as the Minnesota Twins rallied for a 5-4 win Memorial Day. Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig’s comments last week about the A’s and their future contained nothing new, but that didn’t stop local media from exploding over it, on TV and radio and in newspapers. OAKLAND — A struggling A’s offense followed up Tuesday’s one-hit performance by mustering only three base knocks in an extra-inning loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. Right-handed pitcher Brandon McCarthy was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder, the A’s announced Sunday. The move is retroactive to May 18, the day after his last start. The A’s replaced McCarthy on the roster by recalling right-hander Jim Miller. McCarthy, who went on the DL for the seventh time in his career, has a 3-3 record with a 2.95 ERA in nine starts this season. Read More

The Oakland A’s salvaged the series finale against San Francisco on Sunday by scoring four times in the fourth inning to beat the Giants 6-2. Territorial rights for SF Giants, Oakland A's still up in the air

Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said Thursday there has been no resolution regarding the Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants’ territorial rights to San Jose after both parties made presentations to Major League Baseball’s executive council on Wednesday, MLB.com reported.The A’s would like to build a new ballpark in San Jose and play there, but the Giants have not relinquished their rights to San Jose and Santa Clara County. Those rights have been part of the MLB constitution since 1990. Read More
