The Bay Bridge closures planned for Presidents Day weekend have now been made official: Westbound traffic will be shut down from 8 p.m. on Feb. 17 until 5 a.m. on Feb. 21.The shutdown is necessary for construction crews to demolish a section of the existing eastern span of the Bay Bridge, which is being completely rebuilt. During the construction work, the lower deck of the bridge will be open for eastbound traffic from San Francisco to Oakland, but the upper deck, which carries motorists in the opposite direction, will be closed. BART service was slowed this morning after police stopped a train at the Coliseum/Oakland Airport station to investigate a report of an assault, a BART spokesman said. The crime was reported at 7:40 a.m., prompting police to stop the train and search it, BART spokesman Jim Allison said. The train was released just after 8 a.m., but the incident caused delays of up to 30 minutes, he said. Oakland police are urging Craigslist users trying to buy or sell merchandise to use caution after a string of armed robberies originating on the popular website.
Police said that robbers would either create a Craigslist posting advertising the sale of merchandise or respond to users selling merchandise and rob the victim when they arrived to complete the transaction.
