No, I’m not talking about Tim Lincecum, who had a bad outing on Saturday. It was just one of those days for Lincecum, who never really had command of his pitches. He’ll be back to his Cy Young form with his next start.
Madison Bumgarner is a much more legitimate concern. The second-year pitcher couldn’t get out of the third inning on Friday night against the Atlanta Braves. When I talked to Giants manager Bruce Bochy before Saturday’s game, he said he wasn’t worried about Bumgarner.

Every season, the first few weeks are when a team begins to cement its personality. It’s becoming obvious the Giants are going to rely on the quartet mentioned above if they are going to successfully defend their world championship.
After a shaky start with the Giants, Sanchez has turned out to be a pro’s pro. He proved it in the postseason, and he’s proving it again this year. He can hit. He plays hard. If his body holds up, he’ll be a key ingredient to the Giants’ success in 2011.

As I sit out on the back porch, looking out at the backside of Twin Peaks, my thoughts creep back to the trial of Barry Bonds.
I’ve been trying to come to grips with what was proven at the trial that last week found Bonds guilty of obstructing justice.
I rooted for Bonds. I took my son to root for him, and we rooted together. I don’t remember talking about drugs. We talked about baseball.

The real losers in the Barry Bonds trial are you and me and all the U.S. taxpayers who have had to pay for the $6 million attempt by the feds in this travesty.
Aren’t you glad that crime is at such a low level in the country that federal law enforcement officers can afford to spend so much time and money on this?
To this point, all they’ve achieved is to get a guilty plea for Bonds on obstruction of justice in the BALCO case, which wasn’t even part of the original prosecution.

Giants pitching ace Tim Lincecum posted a Facebook message Thursday saying he will donate $25,000 to the Bryan Stow Fund, to help the comatose fan who suffered a skull fracture after he was brutally beaten in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium March 31 after the first game of the season.
“I encourage Giants fans to support Mr. Stow in a positive way and hope there is not any more unfortunate acts between fans in this great rivalry,” Lincecum wrote.

As one of the greatest baseball players who ever lived — with or without doping — Barry Bonds’ career can only be properly assessed with statistics.
And as usual with Bonds, the numbers are eye-popping. The U.S. Attorney’s Office spent upward of $6 million, almost eight years and used enough lawyers to bring down the mob in New Jersey. And all Bonds got was the legal equivalent of a knock-down pitch.
