Giants left-handed reliever Jeremy Affeldt has a strained right oblique and is heading to the 15-day disabled list.
The Giants will recall right-hander Jean Machi from Triple-A Fresno. Machi has pitched five scoreless innings this season.
Affeldt had a 5.79 ERA in six appearances this season and experienced tightness in his side during the weekend series against the Chicago Cubs. The injury was revealed when Affeldt required an MRI exam.
