Madison Bumgarner tweaked his mechanics and nearly replicated his dazzling performance from the 2010 World Series on Thursday, throwing seven scoreless innings in a 2-0 win over the Detroit Tigers at AT&T Park.
The 23-year-old lefty surrendered two hits while fanning eight Tigers batters as the Giants grabbed a commanding 2-0 lead in the World Series. The two hits were the fewest a Giants starter has ever allowed in a World Series game.“What a job he did,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “He had great poise out there.”

Gregor Blanco’s bunt single dribbled about halfway down the third base line and stopped inches fair, next to the white chalk. Several Tigers stood over the ball, almost in disbelief.
The Giants are getting all the good bounces so far this World Series, and they’re in control largely because of them.
Blanco reached on that perfect bunt in the seventh inning and the Giants went ahead moments later on Brandon Crawford’s bases-loaded double-play ball. San Francisco ended up beating the Detroit Tigers 2-0 on Thursday night in Game 2.

Giants lefty Madison Bumgarner did his job on the mound Thursday night, but his fruitless day at the plate marked the end of a record-setting streak after pitchers recorded an RBI in each of the previous three games, the first time that had happened in postseason history.
“They’re part of the offense too,” manager Bruce Bochy said of his swinging pitchers. “That’s why we, just like a lot of clubs, they take batting practice every day. They bunt every day. And there’s a good chance they could come up there and help themselves, and our guys have done a great job.”

Pablo Sandoval had a historic night in Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday, and a few hundred of his closest friends made sure to offer their thoughts on his three-homer game.
“300 text messages, man,” he said Thursday.
He didn’t hear from the other living members of the club he joined, Albert Pujols and Reggie Jackson, but he did get one message he didn’t expect.
“The president [of Venezuela] sent me a tweet yesterday,” he said. “I still can’t believe it.”

Best in baseball? The Detroit Tigers and Giants spent large parts of the season just trying to catch mediocre teams like the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers just to win their divisions.
Those up-and-down regular seasons are distant memories now that the Giants and Tigers have raced through the playoffs and have played two games of the World Series.
The Giants trailed the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West as late as mid-August before making a strong run to win the division and finish tied with the third-best record in the National League.
