The Giants were looking forward to returning home after losing the first two games of the World Series to the cross-Bay rival A’s. Only moments before Game 3 was to begin, the 6.9-magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake struck, shaking and cracking Candlestick Park, killing 63 in the Bay Area and causing widespread damage.
